Updated NEETs Feb 2013 added

16 April 2013

Quick summary
The NEET number and rate rose in line with seasonal expectations in February: there were 934 NEETs of academic age 16 to 18, 22 more than January; the rate was still low, at 5.6%, one pp above the January rate.

The February unknown rate was 4.8%; this was probably well below the England rate though that has not been published yet.

The average NEET rate across the 3 month period of November 2012 to January 2013, 5.5%, was a record low for Bradford district. It was 0.9 percentage points (pp) lower than the previous record low of 6.4%, the figure for November 2011 to January 2012.

Our annual target for 2012/13 was for the average 16-18 NEET rate across that 3 month period to be at least as low as the England figure. However, the Department for Education (DfE) has not yet published the national figures for that period. We do know that Bradford’s NEET percentage, traditionally higher than England’s, went below the England percentage for the first time during 2012; the December 2012 comparison was Bradford 5.5% and England 5.8%.
