First Set of 2011 Census Results

23 November 2012

The first set of results from the 2011 Census was published by the Office of National Statistics on Monday, 16 July. The results for the Bradford district are significant because we, together with partners, use them to plan, deliver and commission services for people living in the district.

This is the first time for over 10 years that information has been collected about the population of the district.

The 2011 Census took place on 27 March 2011. The Census takes place every 10 years and is used to collect information from households which are then turned into statistics about the population.

According to the Census:

The population estimate for the Bradford district is 522,500

The occupied households estimate is 199,300

The number of short-term residents (a person who is born outside the UK who has stayed, or intends to stay, in the UK for between three and 12 months) was 1,300.

The information released also contains a breakdown of the population by gender and by age range (in five-year bands) and supporting information on how the results were calculated.
